Kendal Mountain Festival in a van
Kendal, Cumbria. Four days of mountain films, speakers and outdoor culture across venues in Kendal town centre. It is a town event, not a field event — there is no festival campsite.
Thursday to Sunday.
What the organiser says about vans
- The festival says parking is limited over the weekend, particularly in the town centre, and recommends public transport or sharing a lift. [1]
- Its FAQ page says nothing about campervans, motorhomes or camping. It points to a general where-to-stay page for accommodation. [1]
- It is late November: many campsites in and around the Lakes are closed for winter. Check that a site is open before you count on it.
Numbered points come from the sources listed below. Points without a number are our own advice, not the organiser's.
Our plain advice
Base the van outside the centre and come in on foot or by bus. Kendal is on the main line at Oxenholme and the 555 bus, so a site or a host a few miles out works well.

The rules round here
England: no right to sleep on access land, and honeypot car parks are heavily managed — but the pub and farm network here is one of the best in Britain. More on The Lake District →
